In June 1992 I joined the Dangerous Sports Club with a bungee
jump of 170 feet from a mobile crane over a lake
I did have some live footage of the event on a Video camera tape but
unfortunately this was lost..
On the left is the full report of the jump from my company
magazine at the time, which includes my first hand experience
having just come back to earth..
As the report says, we were given honary membership of the Dangerous
Sports Club, the inentors of bungee jumping
!
The Dangerous
Sports Club was known for many crazy and obviously dangerous
activities, such as hurtling down the snowy slopes of St Moritz in
an 8 man rowing boat and a grand piano
As the video below shows, club members performed the first ever
bungee jump from Clifton Suspension Bridge on April Fools Day 1979
In June 2002 I
abseiled 200 feet down the side of the 14 storey 3M building,
Winchester House, in Bracknell town centre and raised money for
the Anthony Nolan stem cell charity anthonynolan.org
On the left, I am just about to start the descent, having
put on the harness and climbed the many stars up to the roof of
the building - I have never goen down those stairs :)
I managed to descend quite quickly and pushing out with my legs
and letting quite a bit of rope out, completing in a number of
bounds...
The building was demolished in 2015, so the feat cannot now be
repated but this photo shows the scale well
